Djoanna offers specialized physiotherapy both in clinic and in the convenience of your own home, and often can treat groups and family members in the same visit. Appointments are available both during the day, early evenings, and some Saturdays.
Treatments are personalized depending on your various needs, which will be determined at your initial assessment. Djoanna believes in a hands on approach to therapy with a focus on manual therapy and functional exercises vs. long discussions, the use of mechanical devices, and self directed exercises. Once your assessment and treatment session has been completed, you will be provided with education, guidance and exercises routines to help move you forward to your goals. You will also be provided with access to embodiaacademy.com, which is an online application to assist you with your home exercises.
Manual lymphatic drainage therapy is a specialized treatment, which is commonly used for primary and secondary lymphedema. Primary lymphedema is a result of congenital abnormality of the lymphatic system. Secondary lymphedema is commonly caused by interruption of normal function of the lymphatic pathways following surgery or radiation treatment of cancer.
Our team will conduct a physical and functional assessment followed by a discussion of treatment goals with the patient. Therapy includes manual lymphatic drainage, education regarding skin care, self massage, bandaging, and a referral to a compression garment professional.
Massage is also offered for both the benefits of relaxation, and also the treatment of injury, which involves long, fluid strokes of muscles and tissues with pressure that varies from light to medium to firm. Your Massage Therapist will adjust the pressure according to your sensitivity and preference. We can assist to relieve consistent pain and soreness in both large and small muscle groups along with your physiotherapy treatments.
